Best Weekend Getaways from Bangalore

One of Bengaluru's quiet superpowers is how easily you can escape it. Within a few hours lie hill stations, coffee country, palaces, and ancient ruins. Here are the best weekend getaways from the city.

Under 2 Hours

Nandi Hills (1 hour)

The classic Bengaluru sunrise trip. An ancient hill fortress north of the city, popular with cyclists and early risers for its sea of clouds at dawn. Go very early to beat both the crowds and the heat.

Ramanagara & Savandurga (1.5 hours)

Dramatic granite monoliths popular for trekking and rock climbing — Savandurga is one of the largest monolith hills in Asia.

2 to 4 Hours

Mysuru (3 hours)

The cultural heart of old Karnataka. The illuminated Mysore Palace, the bustling Devaraja Market, Chamundi Hill, and — if you time it right — the spectacular Dasara festival. An easy and rewarding overnight trip.

Shivanasamudra Falls (3 hours)

A magnificent twin waterfall on the Kaveri river, at its best just after the monsoon.

4 to 6 Hours

Coorg / Kodagu (5–6 hours)

Misty hills, coffee and spice plantations, waterfalls, and cool weather. Coorg is the quintessential Bengaluru long-weekend escape, ideal for slowing down on a plantation homestay.

Chikmagalur (5 hours)

More coffee country, plus Mullayanagiri — the highest peak in Karnataka — and excellent trekking.

Hampi (6 hours)

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India's most extraordinary places: the boulder-strewn ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire. Unlike anywhere else, and worth every hour of the drive.

Planning Tips

Leave the city very early to beat traffic on the way out — Bengaluru's edges can take an hour to clear at peak times. The post-monsoon months (October to February) are ideal for almost all of these, with green landscapes and comfortable weather.
